Run for wildlife – take action against extinction

What do pangolins, bears, tigers and rhinos have in common?

They are all used in traditional medicine. The impact of the demand for unfounded ‘magic cures’ is the very real possibility of extinction for these species.

But now you can show your support for the fight against wildlife crime by entering a team in the 10th Song Hong Half marathon and festival of running presented by Red River Runners Hanoi. This year’s event – taking place on December 11, 2016 - is billed “Run for wildlife – take action against extinction”.  Entrants can choose to run for pangolins, bears, tigers or rhino in the 21k, 10k, or 5k races.

Education for Nature – Vietnam will be the beneficiary for the fourth consecutive year, with monies raised by the runners helping us tackle illegal trafficking of these iconic species. So why not get a team together and show that Vietnam cares about wildlife?

You can register on the Red River Runners Hanoi website -  redriverrunners.com or offline at Clickspace, No 15, Lane 76, To Ngoc Van, Tây Hồ and  at The Hanoi Bicycle Collective, 31 Nhật Chiêu, Tây Hồ.

Last year, more than 500 people participated in the race. This year, the Red River Runners Hanoi and ENV hope to see even more people getting involved.

Comments ENV Vice Director Nguyen Phuong Dung: “Time is running out for pangolins, tigers, bears and rhinos. If there is no demand for wildlife products then there is no market for the poachers who are a taking these animals to the very brink of extinction. We hope as many people as possible can take part and show that Vietnam cares about the fate of these endangered species.”
